Melbourne has long been recognised as the music capital of Australia with its rich musical culture and a vibrant live music scene which supports local musicians and attracts audiences from around the world.

The City of Melbourne recognises the economic, cultural and social contribution that music makes to our city and our new strategy is a three year plan for how we will further engage with and support the industry to ensure that Melbourne remains Australia’s live music capital.

The strategy has been developed around six key themes, with each theme linked to a clear policy goal aimed at achieving Melbourne City Council's goals to be a creative and prosperous city.

Feedback on the draft Music Strategy concluded on 30 May 2014. The feedback received from the public informed the final strategy, which was endorsed by Council in June 2014.
